MONTAGU CHAMBERS
A significant building within the town that could play an enhanced role in the town centre activity and facilities. The owner is working with the Council to explore funding opportunities to provide a multifunctional building to include retail, leisure and community uses. Renovation of this key building will help anchor the physical environment of this key part of the town, alongside planned public realm enhancements and generate more footfall to support the High Street by introducing new uses and activities to the town centre.

The Montagu building is derelict and privately owned. Who is going to fund this building's make over as the owners spend nothing and are allowing it to become derelict.

I agree with improving the current neglected state of the montagu chambers building but do not agree with limiting cars. As a disabled person I can only visit town if I can park outside the shop I am visiting as I cannot walk from car parks

Montagu Chambers is a landmark of Mexborough and deserves to be refurbished. Illustrations give the impression that the footpaths and road will be the same height. This will be a boon to those with prams, wheelchairs and disabled buggies. At present the dropped curbs are not fit for purpose. The outdoor seating illustration seems at odds with the possibility of a bus route/road traffic passing through the same space. Improved shop frontages that follow a set style would help to integrate the area. Bank Street parking has not been mentioned so we are left with no idea what is being considered. Station Road outside the 'Old Market Place/Wetherspoons' looks like it would narrow to allow for the tree planting - making it either one way traffic or no traffic allowed. Either way it will possibly be less free parking. Without ample free parking people will desert the town centre and make more use of supermarkets and out of town shopping centres. A recipe for disaster.

It will be a massively needed uplift for the building and the area - I am fully in support of refurbishing the Montagu Buildings. They’re a landmark building in Mexborough and it’s a beautiful building.

This is fantastic news! Such a beautiful building. Soooo looking forward to taking my kids down. The refurb is amazing news. Town will look great again. Hope to see this in action very soon.

oh fantastic news. used to be tenant here. loved it but couldn't afford rent. landlord very understanding. would love to give it another go in future. big boost for town. decent building. looking forwards to it.

I come into town everyday and it would be amazing to see this view, really make my day and make me proud of mexbrough. It will take us back to the friendly town we had where families would enjoy a variety of shops and activities.

Was a tenant here for many years and loved it but there’s no trade in mexborough anymore so I had to leave. Would be great to see the building looking good again as it did me very well whilst I was there. Never know, may end up opening a shop there again
